Important Information About the New York Course
For students taking the New York course, the New York Department of Motor Vehicles mandates AARP have the following present in the course:
1. Identity Verification Measures
The New York DMV requires that the individual who is named during the course registration process is the sole user of this program. That person will be the only one participates in and completes this online course, including any applicable quizzes and tests. In order to do this, a participant's identity will be checked and verified multiple times during the course. Here is how we do it:
a. You provide some information automatically during registration (e.g. your street name, your zip code):
b. You provide a telephone number from which you will call our verification system when prompted to do so. You'll also provide some information after registration by entering the birthdates of several friends and relatives:
c. Every time you log into the course, you will be prompted to answer a question based on the information that's been previously collected:
d. At the completion of several units, you will be prompted to call in from your registered telephone number. You will be asked a question about a friend's or relative's birthday and will have to key in the response on your phone's touchpad.
e. At the completion of several units, you will be asked additional questions based on the registration information and birthdates you provided at the start of the course:
2. Quizzes at the End of Each Unit
There are six (6) section-end quizzes contained in the course, which are conducted online. The quizzes are graded and must be passed with a minimum score of 75%. The main purpose of these quizzes is to help you feel comfortable that you understand the information being presented and to verify your participation in the course. You will have two (2) attempts at passing the section-end quiz prior to being locked out of the course. If you are locked out of the course, you may call the Customer Service line at 1-800-350-7025 for assistance. There is no final exam.
